On Tuesday, September 14th, Everett Advisory Partners’, Rena Ramsey, served as a panelist for UAB Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center’s Lunch and Learn. The topic for the session was Workplace and Classroom Rights for People Living with Chronic Disease. Rena, along with Marsha Rucker, Regional Attorney for EEOC and Maria Lyas, the 504 Coordinator for Birmingham City Schools, responded to questions about FMLA and ADA. Rena provided valuable insight into dealing with chronic illnesses from the perspective of the employer and human resources. Rena shared, “It’s important for individuals to engage with their managers and HR departments sooner rather than later.” Rena also highlighted the importance of eliminating the negative stigma associated with human resources and the necessity of recognizing HR as a true resource.
